I wish there was a shortcut to fat loss. I really wish that we could swallow a pill and lose all that fat in one night. But unfortunately, that is the not the case. Every day, when I stand on my weighing scale, my weight does not decrease by a kilo or two. Instead, it decreases by 10 or 20g. The fat decreases by 1 percent and the muscle increases by 1 percent. If I happen to splurge on a little something or cut down on my exercise, the 20g and the 1 percent fat come back with a vengeance.
I have been on a diet for the last two months. I have been diligent about my diet and exercise but sometimes my sensory organs threaten to overpower me like they almost did yesterday. I have not had bread for quite some time. My daughter was making garlic toasts for the rest of the family. As she cooked them, the aroma wafting from them was overpowering. I knew I had to eat atleast one.
I ate one and asked my daughter to take the others away lest I give in to the temptation. After I ate the toast, I started walking in my room in an attempt to burn off the excess calories. Thankfully, when I checked today morning, my weight had dropped instead of increasing.
In these months, I have realized that the journey of fat loss is also a journey of willpower gain. You have to resist the temptation everyday, every minute, every second! You have the eat the same old food everyday. It is not easy especially when you have food screaming ‘eat me’ all around you. All it takes is a little nudge and you can lose the entire fight in a second! The only thing that saves you from succumbing to it is sheer willpower!
