When you start losing weight…

In the last two months (since November 23, 2020) , I have lost about 14 kilograms of weight along with 7% fat with intermittent fasting, a regulated diet and moderate exercise.

The thing about losing weight is that when your body starts responding to your efforts, you feel good. Initially, you have to literally stop yourself from eating all the wrong kinds of food. You have to distance yourself from places, people where you can succumb to temptation and eat something that will show up in your body and increase your weight. This stage is completely fuelled by your will power. It is a difficult time, especially if you are eating foods which are not as tasty or appetizing as the junk that you are so used to eating.

However, this stage of fat loss is fuelled by sheer willpower and lasts for about a month. Once your body starts responding to your efforts, the willpower becomes internal rather than external. Slowly but steadily, you realize that eating junkfood is not really worth the fat gain. You start feeling happy when the numbers on the scale change. You start thinking about eating the right thing even when the temptation strikes.

For instance, yesterday, after lunch, I got a craving to eat something sweet. But I knew my momentary craving would show up on the scale later. So, I ate a banana and that satisfied my sweet tooth and did not add to my waistline.

The human body is an amazing piece of ‘engineering’. It can be completely moulded and changed according to your will and fancy and responds to your every thought, emotion and action.

When you start losing fat, you start treating yourself with more love and care. You know that a moment’s temptation will sabotage your efforts and set you back for at least a week! Slowly, from being a junkyard of all your emotional garbage, your body transforms into the temple that it really is. And that is the beginning of your journey into health and happiness!
