My Brother, My Trainer

My brother and my trainer Abhimanyou Siingh Raathore and me

My younger brother (younger to me by three years) has been training me for fat loss since November 23, 2020. Under his guidance, till now I have lost about 6 kgs. My dress size has now come down from XXL to XL. My brother himself has lost a lot of fat over the past three months.

When we started this fatloss program, I did not like the idea of being trained by my brother. I used to resist the very idea yet I wanted to lose fat because I was tired of being fat. So, slowly and reluctantly, I followed his advice.

He has a very strict diet and exercise plan. Before this, I was into yoga and aerobics and nothing was working for me because I used to eat the regular food. My brother put me on a protein rich diet. In the morning, he makes me do a combination of different kinds of exercises, while in the evening we head to the gym where I lift a lot of weights.

My brother is the kind of trainer who gets after your life for everything. He not only focusses on your body but also eating habits, sleeping habits and even thinking patterns. Since he is also a psychologist, he talks to me about the emotional reasons that made me gain weight in the first place.

Though it is annoying at times (imagine being told by your younger brother about everything) but he makes a lot of sense in a lot of things. I have seen a lot of trainers who tend to just focus on the body of their client. They don’t focus on the mental or the psychological condition of the client, which either makes the weight come back or makes it difficult to lose it in the first place.

If there is something that I have understood in this entire time with my brother it is this- fat gain or fat loss is not just physical. Fat loss is an all encompassing process which we need to go through if we really want to keep this weight off for the rest of our lives. After all fitness is a journey, not a destination.
