The pandemic came later. We have been afflicted by the obesity epidemic since the beginning of industrialization. Sedentary lifestyle coupled with packaged, butter oozing foods have expanded our waist lines and choked our arteries. What do all fast foods have in common? Why are they so appealing? Why are they so popular?
The interesting bit is that despite knowing all its faults, we still crave for fast food. When we are sad or emotionally down, instead of eating fresh foods , we crave sweet laden chocolates and cakes.
Fast foods are made for taste. They are empty calories which do nothing for your body. Yet people choose them over fresh foods and other healthy foods because they taste good. They are gooey, chewy and delicious as opposed to fruits and vegetables or millets which are not as tasty. We show our love by treating our folks with fast food. We express our joy by eating these empty calories. Actors act as if they love these foods, whereas the truth is that they never eat these foods.
Then, again, fast foods generate a huge amount of revenue as compared to healthy foods. People can eat them faster and spend more money on eating them because they can binge on them. It takes 20 minutes for our brain to tell us that we have had enough. Since fast foods melt in the mouth, we can stuff ourselves with as much as we like in those 20 minutes.
Have you heard anyone binging on fruits or vegetables? It takes time for us to eat all those fruits and vegetables because we have to chew each bite. This makes us eat less.
Fast foods are nothing but honey traps laid out for unsuspecting slaves of taste. Beware…the taste will eventually kill you!
