Why do we eat extra in stress?

Eating extra

Emotional eating has been a norm with me. I used to seek comfort in food. Binging on rich, calorie laden food, chips, namkeen, fried stuff has been a part of my life, especially when I was upset or worried or stressed.

Stress is such a paradoxical thing. When you are stressed, instead of relieving the stress, you tend to do things that increase your stress. Some people stop eating while others binge. Then they are stressed about their weight after the stress is over.

Food seems to be a convenient outlet for our emotional problems except that it is not. These days, I try not to use food as my emotional gutter, rather I let the feelings pass. Probably, being mindful helps.

What I have realized is that problems will keep coming in life. But the important part is that we need to fight those problems by mindfulness and by healthy eating. Good nutrition makes your brain sharper.
