Sleep and Fatloss

Yesterday, I was feeling very tired. The reason- my monthly cycle had returned after four months. So, that coupled with cramps, tired me out. My brother gave me some herbal tea which helped in making things better. After a while, I slept off at about 9 p.m.

Today, since I did not have any exercise session, I woke up at 8 a.m. I checked my weight and guess what? I had lost one kilogram of weight between yesterday and today. So, from the day I started my weight loss program i.e. on 23rd November, 2020 till today (in 18 days) I have lost a total of about 6 kilograms. The interesting thing is that the fat percentage has decreased and the muscle mass has increased! Do you know the best part? We have not been visiting the gym for the last one week for different reasons. Yes, I have been very dilligent with my diet except for a total of three cheat meals that we had in these 18 days.

My brother tells me that this is because I slept properly for the first time. I am usually mindlessly browsing sites like Facebook and Instagram most of the times. I keep reading articles about celebrities who mean nothing to me. Naturally, browsing just eats up your time and brain and does nothing for you. Sometimes, it also gives you a lot of unconscious stress because you subconsciously compare your life with that of other seemingly happy people and get depressed. So, I have decided not to mindlessly browse FB or any such sites because obviously health comes first and now sleep is more important than everything!

What I have also realized is that for me, stress makes me gain weight even when I don’t eat. So, I will work on not taking on a lot of stress.

What’s the take away from this experience? Sleeping well is the key to weight loss. The adage, ‘early to bed and early to rise, makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise‘, is true after all!
